What is our new currency symbol represent ?

Well, As all of you know by now that Indian Government has approved new symbol for Indian Currency (Rupee).  Its almost a week now, I asked couple of my friends, what they think about our new currency symbol?. Few people said they like it ( I am one of them), its very inovative etc. but most of them were not happy with it. When i asked them why they think so, every one has their own story. Few people think they used hindi (devanagari) alphabet which is not appropriate, few others has their own design.  What ever it is, Indian governmant approved it, we need to live with it.

After the discussion with my friends, i thought of writing this blog and wanted to convey different meanings or significance of this new symbol. (I don't think the board people are stupid to chose this symbol as currency symbol). Its already been told in different news channels, few blogs too.

Let me go into the details.

1. This symbol uses devanagari alphabet 'ra'. Which represent "Rupaya". I think they used Devanagari (Sanskrit) script just represent Indian culture, where all the Veda and Puranas were in Sanskrit.

2.  This symbol will be globalized soon, hence this design has the roman "R" symbol without the verticle line to its left. So people from different country can also remember this esaily.

3. It also represents equality by showing '=' symbol at the top.

4. This one is just awesome.. I liked this way of thinking.  This symbol also represent our national flag. ( Need to be little creative to visualize this).

With his creative mind D Udaya Kumar has done a wonderful job and engraved his name into  Indian History.

New symbol has come for Rupee but what about its use ? These days, who uses pen and paper? everything is computers.  So how to use this symbol in computers? will there be any unicode? or we need to use any font? etc etc.

As of now we have a font created to print rupee symbol. This font is created by Blog.Foradian.com. Its easy to download and use.  More info visit their website http://blog.foradian.com/rupee-font-version-20

Before closing this post, I am seriously happy, finally we have a unique identity for our currency  :) :)

do leave your comments .

Nice work maga. Just to add to what you already stated, the "=" sign which also signifies stability or equilibrium was used to depict a stable Indian economy :)
